Consume as Oil or Ground Seeds
Flax seeds come in a variety of forms. Flax seed oil is a great addition to salad dressings and smoothies. Ground flax seed can be added to baked goods with virtually no detection. Or it can also be an egg substitute in baked goods: mix 1 tablespoon ground flax seed with 2.5 to 3 tablespoons of water and let sit for about 5 minutes.
Purchase and Storage
Due to its high fat content, flax seed oil and ground flax seeds can go rancid quickly. Therefore, they should be purchased in opaque packaging and stored in the refrigerator/freezer and used quickly. Whole flax seeds can be stored at room temperature and ground as needed with a simple coffee or spice mill.
